    Why
    Chemotherapy Drugs ?

Chemotherapy helps to cure many types of cancer. It in a way controls the growth of cancer cell and tumor. It also reduces the size of the tumor before any surgery or radiation. And it also destroys micro cells post surgery to lower down the possibility of reoccurring and it’s known as adjuvant therapy. When needed, it helps to cure the pain. Using chemotherapy in some cancers most people get effective cure and sometime few people get cured completely. It depends when it gets diagnosed and what medications are given. Mostly doctors suggest chemo for cancer patients to reduce cancer cells and destroy them, for relief from pain and to give a longer life.

    How does it work?

Our tissue is made of billion of cells and cell split is a procedure to create new cell and that’s how growth happens in human body. Similarly cancer cell also grows in same manner and splits into two cells – two cancer cells. Chemotherapy actually stops this growth procedure of cells. Infusing of chemotherapy drugs, cancer cells do not split (by damaging the control part of the cell or sometimes by interrupting the chemical process for cell multiplication).

Types of Chemotherapy and side effects?

There are many ways how chemo would be given. Some are given through injection and drip. Also there are tablets and capsules taken as oral chemotherapy. But all medicines cannot come in oral form because our stomach acids tend to destroy the function. Subcutaneous injections are used for those type of cancers where bleeding is not permitted. It comes with a small needle and it goes till the space between skin and muscle. Another part of injection which generally gets infused directly into muscle is called Intra-muscular injections and it’s used for patients with nausea tendency because it already gets passed through irritated stomach. The most commonly used treatment method is Intravenous injection and it gets infused directly to blood stream.

Mostly chemotherapy causes side effects however it depends on cancer type, patient’s overall health condition and treatment dosage. Common side effects are fatigue, hair loss, nausea and vomiting tendency, constipation, diarrhea, blood disorders, sores, pain etc. Though these days doctors have developed treatment procedures in such a way where they will treat side effects simultaneously. Also exercising helps a lot.

Cost for chemotherapy depends in cases and patients. Generally for 3-4 months tenure per episode can cost up to $100,000 in the United States (general estimation). There are many health insurance policies which come up with help. Also these days there are many welfare organizations who offer monitory help along with hospitalization during your chemo process.

Through chemotherapy cancer is curable till certain extent in most of cases and it always gives relief to the patient from pain and life loss.
